Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus (HIV) is a deadly viral disease that attacks the immune system and weakens the defense system against diseases. Two potential co-factors that for disease progression are genetic factors and age. There is strong evidence that HIV progresses faster if the infection occurs at a later age. HIV attacks the body’s Immune system and weakens the body defenses. In the absence of treatment, HIV generally takes 8 to 10 years to progress to AIDS

PREVENTION OF HIV TRANSMISSION

Three things that can be done to prevent all forms of HIV transmission are given below:-

Caesarian section is an operation to deliver a baby through is mother’s abdominal wall which reduces the baby’s contact with the tissue fluid of its mother. The C section procedure lowers the risk of HIV transmission from the infected pregnant mother to child.

What prevention can an HIV positive mother take to ensure that the infection is not passed on the child- Drug : Antiretroviral drug is given to pregnant women with HIV to avoid passing the infection to her child
